Oresme, Nicholas Nicole, Nicolas Oresme, or Nicolas d'Oresme Bishop of Lisieux

Nicolas Oresme was a French philosopher, astronomer, mathematician, economist, and theologian. Born in Normandy and educated at the University of Paris and Collège de Navarre, he served in the French court of Jean II. He is known for his translations of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, Economics, and On the Heavens from Latin to French for Charles V. In addition to translations, Oresme wrote various treatises, such as Livre du ciel et du monde, Livre de divinacions, and De moneta. He was appointed Bishop of Lisieux in 1377 by Charles V. He died on July 11, 1382. SKG
