Catherine of Siena, born Caterina Benincasa, was an Italian mystic, visionary and one of the few women esteemed as Doctor of the Church for her teachings and writings. She lived during the Great Western Schism and she wrote in support of Urban VI. She also wrote about her mystical visions of being the bride of Christ. Catherine’s writings include more than 380 letters, a collection of prayers, and her visionary book the Dialogo della divina provvidenza. MF
