Notker the Stammerer The Monk of St. Gall

lived 840 - 912

Notker studied at the monastic school at St. Gall and entered the monastery there. Although he had served several roles while a monk there, his chief job was to teach. He wrote various works including a martyrology, hymns, and a biography of St. Gall in verse, and he is generally accepted to be the “Monk of St. Gall” who wrote the anecdotal tales of Charlemagne known as the Gesta Caroli Magni.
