Comments:

Einhard was brought to Charlemagne’s court to help Charlemagne with his intellectual pursuits. Einhard was a close confidant of Charlemagne, and thus his biography provides a rather intimate portrait of the man, although recent scholars have questioned Einhard’s motives for writing the text and their effect on its accuracy. Appendix (p. [42]-52) contains: Carmen de Pippini regis victoria avarica a 796; Versus Paulini de Herico duce; Litania Karolina; Incipit planctus Karoli; and De Sancto Karolo. The full Latin text of the Vita Karoli Magni can be found on the Bibliotecha Augustana website.
