Comments:

Einhard was brought to Charlemagne’s court to help Charlemagne with his intellectual pursuits. Einhard was a close confidant of Charlemagne, and thus his biography provides a rather intimate portrait of the man, although recent scholars have questioned Einhard’s motives for writing the text and their effect on its accuracy. The complete text can be found on the Internet Medieval Sourcebook website, without any scholarly apparatus. It is also available at http://charlemagne.celtic-twilight.com/einhard/index.htm.
