The rule contains thirty-four chapters which Chrodegang gave his clergy (circa 755). It was modeled according to the rules of St. Benedict and of the Canons of the Lateran. Through it, he helped to increase the spread of community life among the secular clergy. It was later extended to eighty-six chapters, which is what we find in this volume, translated into Old English.

Introduction Summary:

It seems a second volume including the introduction, notes, and glossary, was meant to be published, but was never printed. Volume 1 has a 5 page introduction, briefly outlining the seven texts to be discussed.
