Introduction Summary: 

General introduction, by Thomas Head, discusses the tradition of medieval hagiography and its development as exemplified by the texts included in the volume. The practice of venerating saints and the marked changes in sanctity are also discussed, as well as saints’ cults. Each chapter is succinctly outlined and its chronology contextualized. In addition to the general introduction, there is an introduction to this text which includes biographic information on the author, Einhard, and his various works, including the Life of Charlemagne and On Architecture.
